These two guys are in LA today getting the first of many infusions done on Jackson at the children's hospital in Los Angeles. He got accepted to be part of a study for a new trial drug that is being tested on recently diagnosed diabetics. It might slow the shutting down of his insulin production or it might be a total waste of time. We will see. It will be a four year process and lots of travelling, hopefully no side effects, and 50 dollars for Jackson every time we go... BIG bucks to a 7-year-old. Adam is such a great dad. He is working nights right now and got home from work this morning at 8:30, grabbed his boy and some stuff, drove to the airport, flew to Burbank, took a taxi to the hospital, is helping Jackson with everything, then will return home the same way he went... only to go back to work tonight at 9:30. He wanted to be with him and take him and is so sweet with him. It will make for a good day's sleep tomorrow when he gets to crash!

Wow, I didn't know Jackson was diabetic. Our family is always doing cancer studies. They are kind of a pain, but usually have a little money involved, and if they end up helping someone then it's worth it!
that is a HUGE deal! i cant believe he is part of that study- that's awesome. and i really love that picture of those boys. i am always amazed by adam's hectic and sometimes sleepless schedule. i really dont know how he does it!
Yes- Jen... Adam, Jackson, and Isaac are all diabetic. Adam has had it for 25 years and Jackson was just diagnosed at the end of Sept. Isaac is not on insulin shots like the other two yet because his has not progressed to that, but I think he has maybe a year or less before that happens. Luckily we have all the equipment around to check him a lot and keep track of what is going on with his body.

Brittany, that is so interesting! My husband Sterling is diabetic and has been for 15 years. I would love to talk with you about this!!!!!
What a dedicated dad! I hope the study is a sucess. It seems like medicine is progressing so fast and finsing so many break throughs thanks to people like you who are willing to participate! I think it is great and hope Adam got some sleep on the plane!
Brittany, this had me in tears. What a special bond these two will always have. What a trial, but what a blessing that he can take part in this study! I think about you a lot, we should catch up sometime.
